I took the train to Zofingen after school with a friend of mine to see the Christmas market there. Everyone spoke Swiss-German, so I was lucky to have her with me. There were lots of marvelous attractions including a street entirely dedicated to medieval wear and weaponry, live goats and camel rides, the clock tower and giant Christmas tree lit up beautifully, more vendors than you could pass by in an hour, fondue, hot wine, traditional treats of all kinds, and of course the Swiss-Germans who were warmed and jolly by the wine and spectacle to rival Santa Clause himself. I was really amazed by the old-town of medieval houses that were in such good condition, they could have been build yesterday. The streets were clean and safe, and everywhere there was that feeling of Christmas. I think I preferred this market to the one in Montreux because it was so genuine. It was really something put on by the people of the town for themselves, not simply a tourist attraction that had been perfected and regulated to the point where it excluded the culture of the people it catered to. You could walk through the streets of Zofingen and find that you understood them.
